John McWilliams & Elizabeth Cleveland McWilliams

John McWilliams was born March 3, 1748 in Albermarle, County, Virginia and died March 12,1824. He married Elizabeth Cleveland on December 10, 1779 in Virginia. He enlisted December 3, 1776 and served 3 years as a private in the Revolutionary War.  Betsy was the daughter of Alexander Cleveland III and Margaret Doolittle. She was born in 1752 at Blue Run, Orange County, Virginia and she died January 4, 1846. She is related to Colonel Benjamin Cleveland, the hero of King’s Mountain.  Several of her brothers were with George Washington at the Surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown.  Both are buried in the McWilliams Cemetery in Minnelaus, Madison County, Kentucky now know as Whites Station.

*John served two times, then became the Captain of the John C. McWilliams’ Company, Kentucky Mounted Volunteer Militia, commanded by Colonel William Williams. JOHN AND HIS WIFE NANCY MAKE THEIR WAY TO CLINTON COUNTY, MISSOURI IN THE YEAR 1856.
